I never was fan of the Oris 150. They meant be used with Lowther type of drivers, that never worked properly. The Oris 150’s upper bass is not really the bass that might be obtained form the Oris’ mouth. Should this Oris has twice smaller throat and ...

OK, the new Macondo frame is over as well. Eventually after 6 years of learning how to make the damn horn speaker to sound good, after numerous incremental successes and failures, stupidity and brightness, moves to wrong direction and mistaken assess...

[quote user="jessie.dazzle"]Upper Bass : Frequency range between 100 and 500Hz – Driver loaded into a 120Hz straight horn, driven by DSET dedicated channel. Mid Bass : Frequency range between 40 and 100Hz – Driver loaded into a 45Hz straight hor...

because floor josts support and extend the walls (they are solid 2"x6")so just screwed the board tightly to them. Because I needed the boards only within 10' so I have 3 rows of 5' +5' with the seam in the middle. I cut the second layer of bards so ...

It seems to me that any number of LF systems might be made to "work", once a few general questions have been addressed squarely and answered honestly, in order to have some significant empirical data to start with and direct progress, based on largel...

A few things I would like to say in context of Pham’s playback.
I will leave his infatuation with turntables alone – man like to collect turntables and he within his constitutional right to do whatever makes him happy. The problem that I see ...

The bass traps, the biggest one, have only limited effectiveness on the spectra of interest and usually have much more effectiveness in 2-3 octave above the spectra of interest. This make bass to sound less problematic b...

Loudspeakers. For whomever who follows my dairies on this site and whoever has any real understanding what makes a horn-loaded loudspeaker to sound good it is know that Macondo Acoustic System is not juts the result of my DIY efforts or the John Hasq...

I gave another run to Vitavox S2 with electromagnet and while I was listening I come across to an interesting observation. I screw the S3 in 330Hz horn and was trying to run it with 500Hz crossover point. It is pretty standard configuration, the way ...

Ok, I have been experimenting with placement : Long wall versus short wall. Though the frames have wheels and roll very easily, my room is cursed with an elevated platform smack in the middle of everything (about 14 inches higher than the main floor)...

[quote user="decoud"]Since the 8M is now no longer to be had anywhere, for love or money (delighted to be contradicted on this), would people care to suggest alternatives for precisely the use Romy puts it to: driving a round, 3-4 inch throat, upper ...

I understand your point of view concerning 'vintage' in comparison to 'contemporary'. What I find the most troubling with many of the present/contemporary attempts in design is that many people claim to have a truly horn loaded system capable o...

YL 75000 has heavy phase plug indeed , rca style (see sketch) while 1250 ( I never had one) gets a fixed metal dome equivalent to spherical piece on 75000 and rca plugs without conical shape pointing the exit of throat. Ironi...

I don't want to pull the thread way off but the thought occurred to me while reading here that audio bass never fools me into thinking it is real. Even my middling system once in a while can fool me in the midrange and treble for a few seconds or so....

I got yesterday the new Macondo Frame.
As you see I went for a monopod, the strong one and I love a lot what how it turned out to be. What the horns are stuffed into the frame then the frame is unusable at all. The footprint of the frame is very sm...

The systems I've heard with steep slopes (only 4th or 8th order) sound hard and unnatural to me. Admittedly these are on everymans drivers - the sort of thing we all can buy and deploy.Several digital X/O users I've talked too all seem to gravitate t...

Too late now for points, but just the other day I tried to imagine your plan. and I was pretty close.Actually, it is a bit like what I have going now; 15" Eminence bass guitarr woofers in a sealed 3 cu ft cabinet,Oris 150 with 8" B&C midrange dr...

I do understand that by changing power amps to drive Duos you got different sound. However, I do not think that it is a right direction to look at the things. If you want more “depth” from Duos then you are taking about the lower midrange and upper/m...

My approach of the Mid/Upper bass horn and design decisions have been pursuant to a specific acoustic performance target first, quality of construction second, and cosmetic appearance of the finished horn the third. (I believe I was clear in a ...

Again, moving the speakers last night I felt that I really would like to move the speakers closer to the mid of the room – the further the speakers from the back wall the more interesting sound. There is another “again” in what I felt last night. I t...

Of course we do not defend or support a given topology itself but we only wrestle with the results we are able to get from it. Right? But perhaps there are some basics we can agree on? Basically, if it's Tone you are after, you are swimming upstre...

I agree that the right 15" is a nice size for mid-upper bass. I suppose yours are the 15" Vitavoxes that were made to go in boxes? Of course, the usual reason for ports is to "extend" LF, and most modern LF drivers are used in something like this, ...

The best midrange comes from compression drivers, it has that minuteness, transparency and dynamics that no other topology can offer; the main problem with them is that they only cover a very specific mid frequency ran...
